WhatsApp Could Offer 'Like' and 'Mark as Unread' Features Soon

whatsapp-like-mark-as-unread
The popular instant messaging app WhatsApp might adopt some features from its parent company, Facebook.

The messaging giant is testing some new features that might be coming to the app soon. The features include a 'Like' button similar to that of Facebook and a 'Mark as Unread' feature for chat messages, AndroidPit reports.

'Like' Button for Images

Ilhan Pektas, WhatsApp beta tester, recently claimed that a future WhatsApp update will introduce a 'Like' button for images, indicating the company might allow users to Like their friend’s profile picture and images shared in groups as well.

There aren't many details about the new features yet, but if implemented, Like button feature is something that could improve group chats.

'Mark as Unread' Feature to Chats

Besides implementing Like button, WhatsApp is also planning to introduce a 'Mark as Unread' feature to chat messages that will offer recipients ability to mark any message as unread, so that senders will not get the blue ticks.

WhatsApp recently brought few improvements to group chats which includes, the ability to see who is typing, blue ticks for read messages, group administrator’s ability to assign other members as admins, as well as increasing the number of group members.

And now, this new 'Mark as Unread' feature will give users the ability to mark a message as unread. Keeping in mind that awkward situation when a recipient have read the sender’s messages but isn’t able to reply instantly, WhatsApp might soon provide you undo your read chats as unread.

This new unread feature was first spotted by a Spanish website ADSLZone after it obtained some internal WhatsApp translation document.

Both of the above features do sound interesting and are really needed by most of the WhatsApp 800 Million users. However, currently it is difficult to say if these features will make it to the next WhatsApp app update.

WhatsApp updates iOS App with Free Voice Calling Feature

WhatsApp updates iOS App with Free Voice Calling Feature
After rolling out WhatsApp’s Free Voice Calling feature for Android users late last month, the widely popular messaging service has started to roll out the feature to iOS users.

Now iOS users can enjoy making free voice calls through WhatsApp, as the new version of the messenger is now live in the iOS App Store with support to calling.

WhatsApp calling feature allows you to call your friends and family anywhere in the world for free as long as you have a Wi-Fi network or a working data plan on your registered number. The full description of the WhatsApp Calling feature on the App Store page reads:

"Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they are in another country. WhatsApp calls use your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes (Data charges may apply) Note: WhatsApp Calling is rolling out slowly over the next several weeks."

The last line indicates that the feature, so far, is not actually available for all iOS users, but rather will be available in “the next several weeks” when the new WhatsApp Calling reaches your iOS device.

Not just free voice calling, WhatsApp for iOS also adds some major updates to the messaging app. It comes with its sharing extension, which means now you can easily share links, photos and videos from within other apps directly to WhatsApp.

Moreover, WhatsApp tends to roll out other new features that include a "quick camera" button, which lets you quick access to the camera so that you can shoot and send videos and photos from within WhatsApp messages.

But honestly: Free Voice Calling is the real kicker.

You can download the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store now, however you will definitely have to be a little patient to wait for the messaging giant to switch the button ON for the free voice calls on your account.

How To Run Android Apps in Chrome Browser with Google ARC

google-chrome-run-android-apps-with-arc-welder
Last year at Google I/O developer event, Google launched a limited beta "App Runtime for Chrome" (ARC) project, which now expanded to run millions of Android apps within Chrome browser.

Google has released a new developer tool called App Runtime for Chrome (ARC) Welder that allows Android apps to run on Chrome for Linux, Windows, and OS X systems.

App Runtime for Chrome (ARC) was an early experiment specifically designed for app developers, but now anyone can download it.

Google Chrome's ARC Welder app can now run any of your favorite Android apps like WhatsApp, Candy Crush, Angry Birds, all from your Chrome web browser.ARC welder tool operates via some special runtime implemented using Native Client (NaCl) in-browser binary execution tech.

Native Client is a Chrome sandboxing technology that allows Chrome plugins and apps to run at near-native speeds, taking full advantage of the system's CPU and GPU.

Google ported complete Android stack to Native Client, allowing Android apps to run on most major operating systems.

Google ARC welder tool is based on Android 4.4, but there are some limitations:
  • you can load only one app at a time
  • you have to select portrait or landscape layout
  • you need to choose, whether you want the app to run on phone- or tablet-style.
LEARN HOW TO RUN ANDROID APPS IN CHROME:-
  1. Install the latest Google Chrome browser.
  2. Download and run the ARC Welder app from the Chrome Store.
  3. Add third party APK file host.
  4. After downloading APK app file to your PC, click Open.
  5. Select the mode -> "Tablet" or "Phone" -> in which you want to run your app.
  6. Finally, click the "Launch App" button.
I have personally tried this tool before writing, and some of my favorite Android apps work pretty well.

You can follow official detailed instructions released by Google for app developers to use ARC and test Android app for use on Chrome OS devices.

WhatsApp voice calling feature now added:Here’s how to get it

WhatsApp has finally integrated voice call functionality into the world’s most popular instant messaging app. The WhatsApp call feature hasn’t arrived to everyone, so don’t be surprised if you don’t yet have the added functionality, but rest assured, it is coming, and soon.

The story was broken on Reddit, when a user by the name of Pradnesh Patil (pradnesh07) posted some screenshots showing a Calls tab in the app and later a video showing the functionality in action.
All you need to do to get the new feature is download the latest version of the app (v2.11.508) via WhatsApp’s website and sideload it (you’ll need to enable Unknown Sources in your Security settings first) and get yourself an invitation to use the new feature from someone that already has it.

You’ll also need to be running Android 4.4 KitKat (although WhatsApp voice calling has also been reported by some users running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean). The most success seems to be coming from Lollipop-based phones though.
Several attempts have been made to understand the invite system, because not everyone seems to be able to activate the new feature, even with the new version, an invite and KitKat on their phone. Nevertheless, the feature has been confirmed by multiple users and doesn’t seem to be geo-specific or server based. Here’s that video I mentioned of it in action.

So WhatsApp is finally and officially available for Computer, till date we used to use WhatsApp on PC using BlueStacks or YouWave which is still working fine but the only problem with those methods is that they are not official one.
But now, you can officially or genuinely use WhatsApp for Web or Desktop with the new feature which the officials have added, its basically WhatsApp Web Version.
But wait, its not what you are thinking, you don’t have to download any WhatsApp messenger software into your computer, but this new feature will only work on Google Chrome and its completely web based feature which means that their is no need to download any kind of program into your PC.

How to use WhatsApp for Web – Windows 7/8/XP Computer & Mac?

  7. Its just the mirror image of your WhatsApp Mobile.
So, I hope you are not enjoying WhatsApp Messenger on your desktop and you found my tutorial easy to follow.

Disadvantage of WhatsApp for Web or Desktop Official Version :

Here are few of the negative points which I want to let you know, I have listed it down below, these are strong points.
  • It is not available for iPhone or iOS users, feeling bad for them.
  • Its just the mirror of your WhatsApp Messenger which is in your mobile phone.
  • The chat and messages which you are doing on your Web Desktop version, it is happening live on the spot on your WhatsApp in Smartphone.
  • Thus, WhatsApp will consume double data i.e one from web version and other from your phone.
  • It is risky to use it on public computer because if you forget to log off from that public PC then any one can see your previous messages which you have sent from mobile also and he/she can even send one from your WhatsApp.
Now, lets come to the advantages or benefits part of WhatsApp web version, you can even call it extra features, have a look below.

Advantages of WhatsApp Web :

Some plus points of this new features is given below, please take a look.
  • You can obviously use WhatsApp Messenger from your Computer, we were waiting for the same from last 3 years, this is the biggest feature in itself.
  • You don’t need to scan the QR code again and again, its just the first time setup or step which you are doing, if you log off from desktop then you need to repeat it again, so its a no time waster.
  • You will be able to type in desktop with amazing speed, send images and videos at blazing fast speed
So folks, I think, WhatsApp for PC (official web desktop version) is boon for many of us who use it very much. Finally, WhatsApp on PC is available for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP as well as Mac. Thanks for visiting us.
